All are invited to join the Diocese of Des Moines on a pilgrimage to Dublin, Ireland next year for a tour of the country beginning Aug. 19, 2018 and concluding Aug. 26–27, 2018 with the closing weekend of the World Meeting of Families. Several information sessions are planned.
Pope Francis is expected to attend the closing events.
Seventy five pilgrims from the Diocese of Des Moines attended the last World Meeting of Families in 2015 in Philadelphia.
“It was a powerful moment in the spiritual lives of those who attended,” said Bishop Richard Pates. “It was a privileged moment to pray for married couples and families in all their diverse circumstances. It was a catechetical opportunity for those who attended. It bore fruit in our diocese through a renewal of our Diocesan Marriage Board and new excitement around multiple marriage enrichment initiatives. I am confident that this pilgrimage will be no less fruitful.”
Several information nights have been arranged across the diocese for those who are interested but need more information. Stop by the following parishes 6:30-8 p.m. to hear more about the upcoming pilgrimage:
- Sept. 25, at St Mary of Nazareth Parish in Des Moines
- Sept. 26, at St Mary’s Parish in Red Oak
- Sept. 28, at Christ the King Parish in Des Moines
- Oct. 3, at All Saints Parish in Stuart
- Oct. 5 at Corpus Christi Parish, Holy Family site, in Council Bluffs
Next year’s gathering will be the first World Meeting of Families since the promulgation of “The Joy of Love” (“Amoris Laetitia”).
